Tteokbokki (Korean Spicy Rice Cakes) 

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups Korean rice cakes (tteok)

  • 1 cup water

  • 2 tablespoons Korean chili paste (gochujang) or red chili sauce

  • 1 tablespoon sugar

  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce

  • 1 clove garlic (minced)

  • 1 spring onion (chopped)

  • 1 boiled egg (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Boil water:
    Add water to a pan and bring to a boil.

  2. Add sauce:
    Mix chili paste, sugar, soy sauce, and garlic into the boiling water.

  3. Cook rice cakes:
    Add rice cakes and cook for 5–7 minutes, stirring gently until the sauce thickens.

  4. Add spring onions:
    Add chopped spring onions and cook for 1 more minute.

  5. Serve:
    Put in a bowl and top with a boiled egg if you like. Serve hot.
